Food Drive

180_fooddrive-2013Over 320,000 people on Long Island go hungry…and SMM Advertising did something about it. Over a period of six weeks, associates brought in food as well as other items such as household goods and personal care items. Collected as part of the HIA-LI Summer Food Drive, on behalf of Long Island Cares and The Harry Chapin Food Bank, the donations will be given to over 560 Nassau and Suffolk County not-for-profit organizations. These organizations will immediately distribute the donated items to families in need. “There are many ways to give back to the local community, and helping to support Long Island’s food banks is a small way to make a big difference,” said SMM president Charlie MacLeod.

About the HIA-LI Summer Food Drive
The HIA-LI Summer Food Drive, which collects an average of 70,000 pounds of food each year, is the second largest food drive in the country and is second only to the National Letter Carriers Food Drive. With an ongoing goal of collecting 100,000 pounds of food (which equals 83,000 meals) annually, these meals are distributed directly back into Long Island communities.

About Long Island Cares and The Harry Chapin Food Bank
