I'm voting for Charlie Brown!

Charlie Brown and his bossy frenemy Lucy Van Pelt along with Joe Cool Snoopy are being featured in their own campaigns – all with different platforms (Lucy promises us all, “Crabbiness you can count on!”). Celebrities including Aisha Taylor, John Oliver and Whoopi Goldberg have produced public service announcements to help promote voter registration and have been viewed over 600,000 times on various social media platforms.

The popularity of the mock election is due in part to the success of the 2015 blockbuster movie and the new TV series that launched this summer. Rock the Vote has also been promoted by other real-world and online events. Nearly 100 farms have created Peanuts-themed corn mazes which will have costumed character appearances to promote the 50th anniversary of the Halloween TV special: It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

How have the Peanuts remained so popular for 65 years?

The Peanuts have about 14 million followers on social media and their holiday special, It’s Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown won an Emmy award last year. The Peanuts Movie, also out in 2015, retained its authentic feel, even though it was the first Peanuts animation to use computer-generated technology.

Melissa Menta, Senior Vice President of marketing for Peanuts Worldwide states that the company is always looking for innovative ways to stay relevant. The brand approach is described as soft and sweet, but also extremely honest. Consequently, the Peanuts Gang has continued to appeal to people of different generations and demographic groups.

The Charles Schultz family, who are part owners of Peanuts Worldwide, and the executives have preserved the brand’s integrity to maintain it’s emotional impact for generations to come.

So, get out and vote for your favorite blockhead!
